10 photos of Southeast Asia food I was able to try in each country, and here are their back stories:
SINGAPORE: Chilli Crab, Mantou Buns, and Teh Tarik

🇸🇬 Chilli crab has been on my SEA food bucket list and had it for my solo celebratory dinner (‘coz I rock and roll solo 97% of time) after a presentation. I realized the price of chilli crabs are not fixed, and the crabs are huuuuge so I had to search for the smallest crab I could find on any stall. 🦀
PHILIPPINES: Chicken Intestine (‘Isaw’)

🇵🇭 It’s a chicken intestine (isaw) which is my favorite Filipino street food! But what you see in the photo is from an upscale Filipino restaurant in Laguna, PH.

INDONESIA: Lapis Surabaya

🇮🇩 Nasi goreng with sate or ayam should be here because I eat them regularly in Indonesia but I don’t have a single photo of them 😭 Here’s a photo of Lapis Surabaya (layered cake) from Hotel Majapahit’s afternoon tea menu. 💖
BRUNEI: Ambuyat and Beef Rendang

🇧🇳 A local friend took me to Aminah Arif Restaurant to taste some Bruneian food because he can’t convince me at first that Malaysian food is different than Bruneian food. I got introduced to ambuyat.
CAMBODIA: Blue Pumpkin Bread

🇰🇭 French bakeries are my thing whenever I go to the former French colonies because tinapay is life hehe and Blue Pumpkin was the best! But sadly we can’t hoard breads to bring back home.
MALAYSIA: Nasi Lemak

🇲🇾 I was bound to Petaling Jaya via RapidKL but I haven’t eaten my breakfast so I bought a random rice and lamb meal at the bus stop. It has the best sambal I tasted. Ever.
MYANMAR: Rice Meal

🇲🇲 I gained weight after a 10-day trip to Myanmar because they serve a lot of rice and for some reason ang sarap ng kanin nila. Biggest meals of my life!
LAOS: Lay’s Salted Egg Chips and Beerlao

🇱🇦 Not a fan of nightlife in general, so I create my own nightlife inside my hotel room, on my own, while watching the news. Welcome to my life. 😎
VIETNAM: Bia Saigon Beer

🇻🇳 Had a presentation in Saigon and I looked for some local beer and forgot it’s inside my bag the whole damn time I’ve transited to 3 countries by land. I only remembered such at BKK Airport security check before my flight back. I drank it bottoms up in front of the security dude because nanghinayang ako. Pinagtawanan lang nya ko🤘🏻
THAILAND: Pad Thai, Mango Sticky Rice, and Thai Tea Frappe

🇹🇭 Thai food has always been my comfort food, and this upscale Thai food from a local coffee shop was the best.
