Hello, hello!
Guess what? I just had the most incredible layover in Singapore as usual, and I couldn’t wait to share all the exciting details with you! It was such a fantastic experience, and I know you’ll be just as thrilled as I am about everything I did.
First things first, the flight with Singapore Airlines was amazing, as always. I was lucky enough to fly on the A380 New Economy, and let me tell you, it was such a comfortable journey. I even got to watch The Office US during the flight, which made the time fly by. Singapore Airlines never disappoints!

Once I arrived at Changi Airport, I headed straight to The Jewel @ Changi. It’s this incredible shopping complex, and the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had entered a whole new world. I did some window shopping, taking in all the beautiful stores and stunning displays. But the highlight for me was definitely the HSBC Rain Vortex. It’s this massive indoor waterfall that’s simply mesmerizing. I couldn’t resist spending some time just admiring its beauty.

After my delightful visit to Jewel Changi, I hopped on the MRT and made my way to CapsulePod@Aljunied. That’s where I had booked my capsule bed, and let me tell you, it was such a unique and cozy accommodation option. It was a fantastic experience staying there, and I would highly recommend it if you ever find yourself in Singapore. It wasn’t the best, but it’s definitely one of the cheapest ones that’s worth your money.
Now, here comes the academic part of my layover adventure. I made a visit to my home university, and it was incredible. I got to explore the campus and check out some of the iconic landmarks. The Hive was a standout for me, with its futuristic architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Gaia was another fascinating building, and it left me in awe of the innovation and creativity that went into its design. A building made mostly of wood? Say whut! And of course, I couldn’t miss my PhD home. It was a proud moment for me to be standing in the place where I’ll be pursuing my research and making a difference in the field.

Of course, I also made sure to indulge in some local experiences. I headed to Bugis, where I couldn’t resist checking out Evernew Bookstore. It’s a book lover’s paradise, and I could have spent hours browsing through their extensive collection. And when hunger struck, I decided to grab a quick bite at McDonald’s Bugis. Yes, I know it may sound ordinary, but trust me, the food was anything but! It was a delicious meal that hit the spot perfectly.

Before calling it a day, I made a quick stop at 7-Eleven, where I picked up some Chicken Biryani Rice and Evian Water. The best part was that the Evian Water had a special collaboration with Peanuts/Snoopy, which was absolutely adorable. It’s the little things like this that make traveling even more memorable.

Finally, after a jam-packed day, I returned to my hotel to freshen up and get some rest. I needed all the energy I could gather because the next day, I was off to Surabaya. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure to update you on my Surabaya adventures too!

I hope this letter-like entry made you feel like you were right there with me in Singapore. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and catch up on all your latest stories too. Talk to you soon, and take care!
Yours in wanderlust,
Sher
